Meet one of our favorite people in the universe: Tyler Manuel

As a recent grad, what is something you didn't learn in school but learned immediately in the "real world"?

I think the number one thing that I learned in the real world after graduating is that there's no substitution for that "real world" experience… it something that only comes with time I think. When you're in film school you're really just getting your feet wet and learning the tools that will get you started. It's the continual hard work and everyday application of the tools learned that builds and expands that experience and grows you. I've seen myself grow as a filmmaker exponentially since graduating and I credit that growth to the fact that I've been able to work with an incredible team.

Why work with Inkwell Films?

The first production that I worked on with Inkwell Films was a full production adventure narrative kind of deal and it was incredible! It was three full days, huge sets, and a great story. It was the real deal and it was the biggest shoot I had been apart of at that time. On that shoot I picked up on what a family oriented team Inkwell had and that's an incredible thing! I knew then that I HAD to be apart of anything and everything that they were doing! Who wouldn't want to work with really incredible people, that's what drew me to Inkwell - the tight knit family aspect of their team.

You wake up one morning and you're doing your dream job. What is it?

If I woke up tomorrow and I was working my dream job, I'd be directing powerful performances and incredible stories that make the audience feel the power of the human condition. I love going into a movie and feeling the story on a deeper level. I hope that one day I'm able to create and direct those types of stories and performances.

What is the best Non-Michael McDonald song that you can sing like Michael McDonald?

I think the best song I do as Michael McDonald is, The Weeknd's "Can't Feel My Face". I feel like I've really got that one keyed in, but I'm working on Justin Bieber's "Sorry" and I'm feeling pretty good about that one too
