Sam and I were shooting together about two months ago. We mic’d up the talent a few minutes before the cameras rolled. He walked off set until we were ready for him. Little did I know, our next short film would be born in that moment. After the shoot, Sam came up and said, “Dude, I’ve got an idea …” Now normally, when it comes to Inkwell ideas, I immediately start thinking of numbers and figures and how we’re going to pull it off. We’re usually dreaming Spielberg ideas with little to zero budget money.
The beauty of this idea is that it was obtainable. “What if a sound guy left his lav mic rolling and he overheard the two leads plotting a murder,” Sam told me. Of course, I was immediately thinking comedy, so when Sam confirmed that genre, I was jazzed up about the idea. He also graciously offered me the directing job. So, we’re shooting our in mid-August!
We’ve got some really good friends that are going to act in it, a big crew of pals we’re stoked to collaborate with and a partnership with NFI students to help them get some hands-on learning. It’s going to be a really fun project and we’re all excited to bring you into the process with us! Be on the lookout for more details over the following weeks. It’s going to be a fun ride …
